Building the Broadband Workforce of the Future

The Communications Workers of America District 9 Apprenticeship and Training Trust Fund (CWA D9 ATTF) partners with employers, educational institutions, and community organizations to train the next generation of telecommunications and fiber splicing technicians.

Our 36-month registered apprenticeship program combines hands-on field training, college credit coursework, and paid on-the-job experience, creating a reliable, high-road workforce ready to meet California’s expanding broadband needs.

For Employers

Hire and train with confidence.
Our apprenticeship program helps you:

  • Build a pipeline of qualified, safety-trained technicians.

  • Meet workforce compliance requirements on public works and state-funded broadband projects.

  • Strengthen your company’s connection with union-trained, college-accredited talent.

Partnering with CWA District 9 means your company gains access to motivated apprentices who are trained to industry standards and supported by experienced instructors and mentors.

For Apprentices

Get paid while you learn.
As a CWA apprentice, you’ll receive:

  • No-cost technical training in telecommunications and fiber optics.

  • College credit through Chabot College and partner institutions.

  • Hands-on experience with real employers in the field.

  • Certifications and skills that open doors to a lifelong career in broadband infrastructure.

Our graduates become certified journeymen with the skills, credentials, and confidence to thrive in high-demand telecommunications careers.

For Community Partners

Let’s build the future—together.
We collaborate with local governments, workforce boards, and community organizations to:

  • Create high-road, local jobs that sustain families and strengthen communities.

  • Expand broadband access through skilled workforce development.

  • Align with federal and state digital equity and infrastructure initiatives.

If your organization funds or supports broadband expansion, workforce equity, or apprenticeship initiatives, we’d love to connect.

Our Locations

We’re proud to train apprentices at facilities across California. Each site is equipped with labs, tools, and instruction tailored to the telecommunications and fiber industries.
